Being a couple with VERY high standards for all of our personally-planned social events, my husband-to-be and I had quite the elaborate vision for our Big Day. Given that Mendocino is several hours away from where we live, we knew we had a tricky process ahead of us. Quickly coming to the conclusion that it would be impossible to accomplish this vision by ourselves, we looked very carefully for a seasoned wedding coordinator who could make our dream day a reality. After briefly considering a few coordinators outside of Mendocino, we found Sonya at Mendocino Weddings…perhaps it wasn’t so much that we casually “found” her as much as, while inquiring for wedding services, everyone in and around Mendocino and many former out-of-area clients and vendors she’d worked with just raved about the work of Mendocino Weddings. As soon as we met Sonya, we knew – this was definitely our Wedding Coordinator.

Throughout the planning process, Sonya was consistently in touch with us, keeping us up-to-date on the planning progress, carefully taking note of our ideas & even building on our vision with inspiration she shared. It seems like every week we left a conversation with Sonya saying- “We love it!”. Her local connections and thorough knowledge of the area made planning not only a breeze, but a fun & exciting experience that Jason & I got to enjoy together. How Sonya & Mendocino Weddings kept so many details together from such a detail-oriented, yet somewhat disorganized pair we were, is beyond me- but that’s exactly what they did.

On the day of our wedding, Mendocino Weddings completely brought our wedding vision to life. I’m partially convinced that Sonya has a twin because this amazing woman was everywhere! She successfully went to every effort to make sure everything was in place and that we were blissfully happy. It made me giggle to find that, although I knew what we we’d asked for in our day, I found myself constantly gasping in delight seeing just how impeccably our vision had become a reality. Jason & I had the most incredible day filled completely with love & celebration with absolutely not a care in the world regarding how the details of the day unfolded; we knew it was in the best hands. We could not have asked for a better wedding planner than Sonya Houston for our wedding of 200 guests. First of all she is really knowledgeable and gave us great advice. She genuinely seems to know every vendor for 200 miles, and when we had special requests for things she was able to source them for us, which saved us many hours and heaps of stress. And we did have lots of special requests, about the food and the decor etc. But Sonya understood our tastes immediately and got right to work finding just what we had in mind. She got us, and the vision we had for the wedding.

All the vendors that she introduced us to turned out to be perfect – very professional and creative.

The other great thing about Sonya is that she’s really great to work with. She gets down to business, but she’s really easy going and pleasant to interact with. If she was annoyed by my million emails and questions about this or that detail she never let it show. And it rained – no, more like poured cats and dogs – on our wedding day. As it was an outdoor wedding for 200 guests, a lot of nerves were a bit strained by the weather, but Sonya was prepared with the backup tent and everything we needed to make it all work out in spite of the weather. She knew what to do, and did it with a smile.

There are a million little details that go into a wedding, and if you’re at all a perfectionist, or having a large wedding, or planning it from out of town (I was all three!) do yourself a favor and hire Sonya. Her fees are very reasonable, and it will make planning your wedding so much more enjoyable to have her expertise to call on.

I really can’t say enough nice things about Sonya. She helped us create the wedding of our dreams, and saved us an incalculable amount of stress. My husband and I often joke that we wish we could hire Sonya to manage the rest of our lives.

Sonya Houston is the best wedding planner we could imagine. We actually held events in Mendocino and Chicago, so we got to compare two different wedding planners. That made us realize how lucky we were to find Sonya in Mendocino.

Sonya seems to know everyone in the area. She showed us locations we would never have found by ourselves. She found creative solutions to every problem.

Through the entire process she was an absolute pleasure to work with, always listening to us, and going the extra mile. On the day, we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Everything exceeded our expectations.  

Mendocino is a wonderful place to have a wedding, and Sonya Houston is a wonderful wedding planner.

We decided to get married in Mendocino. I am a can-do kind of gal and am always looking for the best value. I thought I could put it all together on my own from the moderate distance of Calistoga. As the wedding was in March, I needed an indoor/outdoor venue. After  months of internet searching – I was a few months from the big day – with no venue! I caved in and hired a wedding planner – mainly to find the venue. The gal I picked randomly (not Mendocino Weddings) recommended the prefect location – The Headlands House, a private residence just outside of town. Right on the bluff, but also a fabulous glass atrium that could accommodate the ceremony indoors if the weather was bad (it was…. hail! and wind storm). This particular planner did not return my calls regularly so I did not use her for the rest of the planning. However, I did recognize the benefit of using a professional at this point, because it was too close. I called Sonya at Mendocino Weddings, and she immediately put me at ease. She helped me pull it all together (caterer, photographer, musician, florist, etc.) with professional grace, a sense of humor and a good degree of flexibility. I highly recommend using her services.

Every couple wants their wedding day to be perfect, and we can honestly say there’s not a single thing we’d have changed about ours.  It was perfect, right down to the smallest details of how we wanted the seating cards hung and table settings positioned.  While our guests may have never even noticed such subtleties, we knew what we wanted and Mendocino Weddings delivered on every request.  Our wedding planner, Sonya Houston, handled everything from our very first visit to what would eventually be our wedding venue to packing up the left-over alcohol for us long after the event was over.  Many people have jobs to simply pay the bills, but Sonya seems born to do this, and she made all of the planning way easier and more fun than we could have imagined.  She took the time to get to know us early on so that the suggestions she made throughout the months before our wedding complimented our style well.  Sonya’s experience as a wedding planner was evident from the first time we met her when she took us to over 12 potential wedding venues in about 4 hours.  Looking back now, we wonder how we’d have ever found the perfect place without her.  It’s that experience that enabled her to take our ideas and bring them to life in such a stunning way.  She was available throughout the entire planning process and there for our wedding day, reminding us to hold our bouquets near our belly buttons, handing us a much-needed shot of alcohol once the ceremony was over and even repairing a broken bustle so that the dancing never ended.  That day was truly magical, and Sonya and her team played a huge part in making it one of the best days of our lives

Our wedding day was magical. It was exactly as we hoped it to be. Mendocino Weddings helped us make our vision a reality. It is a challenge to plan a destitination wedding and we could only take a couple trips to Mendocino prior to our wedding. In four months, Mendocino Weddings helped us find our site, coordinate vendors and be an informative resource. Their presence on our actual wedding day served as a sigh of relief, knowing we could focus on us, our family and friends. I am deeply grateful to Mendocino Weddings for a truly perfect wedding.
